Established in 2013, the Auckland WheelStarz is New Zealand’s pioneer Junior Wheelchair Basketball club. We offer regular trainings and competition (February to September) to meet the physical and social needs of young people ages 10-23 years with physical disabilities.
We are Auckland based and invite interested players from all over the Auckland area. Our club works closely with the Auckland WheelBreakers, Auckland's only adult wheelchair basketball club, to provide a pathway for our young athletes to play at a more senior level.
While most of our players have a physical disability we do welcome those without disabilities to join our club. Please note that players with disabilities do not need to be regular wheelchair users to play.
Basketball Wheelchairs are provided and we offer high quality coaching from a former National Junior Wheelchair Basketball coach.
Also, it is FREE to participate!
Our training's are:
Thursdays 5.30pm - 7pm
Massey University Rec Centre
Dairy Flat Highway, Albany
Saturdays 9am - 12pm
Auckland Spinal Unit
30 Bairds Road, Otara
*Currently our West Auckland training's are on hold as we source a new venue
"It has given her a total new lease of life as far as sport is concerned, she loves playing basketball, she feels engaged, she feels she's learning new skills and loves the training you provide - as well as being with the other amazing young people on the team"
(Diane, mum of a current WheelStarz player)
